The South Western Heritage Railway preserves many types of freight stock used for demonstration goods trains.
BR 13 ton conflat[]
The BR 13 ton conflat is a type short flatbed used by British Railways to carry A type and B type containers.
History[]
The 12 conflats preserved on the South Western Heritage Railway were first used by British Railways as a part of a new generation on cargo transport, the first container wagons. They were painted in BR's Bauxite livery to indicate that they have vacuum braking equipment. As containers got bigger, the conflats were later underused and the A & B type containers were out of date, this lead to the conflats to be withdrawn.
The South Western Heritage Railway bought 12 in 1991-1995 and were restored to working order.
Livery[]
The 13 ton conflats are painted in BR's Bauxite livery, to indicate that they are vacuum braked opposed to grey for hand braked stock.
LB&SCR 8 ton vans[]
These vans were only seen in flashbacks to Billinton's youth on the LB&SCR. Only one is used on the South Western Heritage Railway.
